The fossil used to make this cast is from Morocco and lived during the Lower to Middle Devonian, about 380 million years ago. Several species of trilobites would enroll into this defensive posture to protect themselves from predators. When a trilobite is able to enroll completely like this one, it is called a sphaeroidal.
